| Welcome to... "A Chance Encounter". This is the first chapter of a project I've embarked upon to tell a story through seven installments. At it's core, "A Chance Encounter" is a set of songs, each song telling part of a story, with the collection in it's entirety telling the story from start to finish. Musically, this is what would be called, "A concept album", similar to pieces such as, "The Wall" by Pink Floyd, "Tommy" by The Who, "Nostradamus" by Judas Priest, "Metropolis Pt. II: Scenes From A Memory" by Dream Theater, and, "The Black Halo" by Kamelot. All of these albums, while containing a collection of incredible music, hold a story that is more then the sum of their individual parts, and each tells a unique and epic story, the likes of which leave the listener bedazzled and inspired. My goal is that by completing this project, I might inspire myself to actually practice more musically and re-learn reading musical notation. With only this piece completed, it is already only waiting to have music written and attached. My minds eye can envision melodies and tempo changes screaming around the verses and choruses, particularly in the vein of Progressive Heavy Metal/Progressive Rock music, with an emphasis on multiple symphonic instrumental portions played with traditional rock instruments (guitars, drums, bass) as well as a variety of other instruments through the album (violins, mandolins, classical strings and brass sections, flutes, and more), not to mention at least a few choir-esq moments. I'm estimating each song to have a running length of anywhere between six and fifteen minutes, though who knows what will happen at the end of all of this. Because of time restraints, only time will tell when I might complete the next pieces. 'Til then, I would especially appreciate any sort of critique and commentary you'd like to provide on this piece. Thank you very much! |
